This year, the Chow Lectures will feature one of the world-leading theoretical physicists Nima Arkani-Hamed (Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton). The lectures will take place at MPI MiS in Leipzig, from October 6 to October 8, 2025. Further details can be found here.
The lecture series is named in honor of Wei-Liang Chow (1911–1995), a distinguished mathematician celebrated for his contributions to algebraic geometry, as well as differential geometry, differential equations, and control theory. Chow earned his PhD in 1936 in Leipzig, working with the Dutch mathematician Bartel Leendert van der Waerden at the University of Leipzig, where he introduced the concept of Chow coordinates. He later served as a professor in Nanjing, Princeton, and at Johns Hopkins University, where he worked until his retirement in 1977.
